Every SaaS and AI business has different tax requirements.

Some are just starting out and need a simple way to apply tax inside their billing platform. Some already have a trusted provider and do not want to rebuild what they already have. Others are expanding internationally and need more advanced support for VAT, reverse charge, or multi-jurisdiction compliance.

Maxio supports all of those setups. The goal is not to push customers toward one tax path, but to let them manage tax the way their business already works, inside the billing workflows they rely on.

For teams with straightforward tax needs, Maxio’s built-in Custom Tax supports flat-rate calculation directly in the platform without a separate vendor commitment.

And for those with more complex needs, we’re excited to announce that Sphere, Numeral, and TaxJar have been added as tax provider options, alongside our Avalara AvaTax and Anrok integrations.

Sphere

Sphere was built intentionally for global tax complexity, with a strong focus on VAT, compliance, and calculation logic for modern B2B and AI businesses.

Maxio’s Sphere integration lets teams use Sphere as an external tax calculation engine inside the billing workflow. Tax-inclusive pricing and discount-aware calculations run automatically at invoice time, without custom middleware between the two systems. Credentials are configured and validated directly in the Maxio UI, so there is no engineering work required to go live.

Product tax code mappings are managed inside Sphere, and Maxio passes product IDs during calculation. That gives teams a centralized place to manage tax rules while keeping tax calculation connected to billing activity in Maxio.

Sphere is a strong fit for companies that want an external tax engine focused on global calculation logic for VAT and cross-border transactions.

Numeral

Numeral supports advanced tax automation for companies managing VAT, reverse-charge, and multi-jurisdiction compliance.

For finance teams operating internationally or across complex tax jurisdictions, Maxio’s Numeral integration applies the right tax logic automatically at invoice time. Invoices, voids, refunds, and partial refunds flow to Numeral, helping teams keep compliance records complete without manual work at close.

TaxJar

TaxJar helps companies manage U.S. sales tax across nexus tracking, jurisdiction rules, and filing workflows.

With Maxio’s TaxJar support, teams can connect their existing account and use TaxJar’s SmartCalcs API to calculate the right sales tax rate based on customer address and jurisdiction. Invoice, void, and refund activity flows through automatically, helping finance and filing teams maintain a complete tax record without manual exports or reconciliation work.

This is especially useful for teams that already rely on TaxJar and want to keep their nexus rules, product tax codes, and filing history intact as they move to Maxio.
